School Site Council

WHAT IS SLIBG?  SLIBG is our State Library Improvement Block Grant.  This program is funded by the state and provides supplementary funds for all the elementary schools in Fremont.

We are very proud of SLIBG at Brier School.  The beauty of the program is just what the title suggests—to improve our school.  We are allowed to write a school plan that we feel is tailored to the needs of our school.  SLIBG covers all grade levels and all areas in the curriculum.  This enables our entire school to receive the benefits of the program.

WHO OVERSEES THIS PROGRAM?  The School Site Council (SSC).  The council is made up of half parents and half staff members.  The parents are elected by parents and the staff is elected by staff.  The major purpose of this council is to develop, implement, evaluate our plan and oversee our School Improvement budget.  If you would like to look over our plan, there is a copy available to parents in our office.

WHAT DOES SLIBG MAKE POSSIBLE?  In the past years, SLIBG paid of our Xerox machine, library books, Youth and Family Services counselor, staff development, instructional supplies, teacher conferences and workshops, computers and other equipment.  If you would like a voice in SLIBG expenditures, please come to our first meeting of the year, September 25.

WHEN DOES THE COUNCIL MEET?  Meeting are usually held the third Tuesday of every month at 3:05 in our library.  Please check the school newsletter of the exact dates.  All parents are always welcome to attend.

Our first meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 25.  If you are interested in joining our committee, please come to the first meeting.  We will be electing officers and coming up with a ballot of members for the school year.
